“We need quiet time to examine our lives openly and honestly.”
-Hudson Taylor
Have you ever taken a moment to reflect on who you are, where you’re going, what the future holds?
If you have, you’ll know how powerful that can be.
When we knew it was time for a new look and name, we went deep with it. And while we didn’t have to change a lot (that was a relief), we discovered more about ourselves than we expected.
Our vision and mission haven’t changed.
At our core, we still have the same passion.
We still desire full and free living for those affected by sexual exploitation in Bolivia and beyond. And we do that by awakening hope while offering opportunities for holistic, cycle-breaking transformation for women and children in vulnerability.
But Our core values got an update.
Integrity I Justice I Vulnerability I Compassion I Community
Though our essence remains the same, a humble posture of service and connection with others, with Jesus at the core of it all, we also wanted to emphasize alignment, full authenticity and transparency with who we are and what we do.
The most insightful part in our rebrand was realizing we’re a bunch of contradictions that work beautifully together.
We’re humble yet confident. We aren’t the heroes in this story. It’s the women and children we serve. But we know they’ll transform their context. We know they’ll overcome and break cycles for their children. We’re confident in them and in how we can help.
We’re empathetic yet have standards and expectations. We’ve been doing this long enough that we’ve seen what works and what doesn’t. And what works is believing (and expecting) the best of ourselves and the women who come through the doors. We’ve given them our hearts and listen well and will walk beside them every step of the way, but we’ve learned they have to be the ones to walk the journey.
We’re flexible and adaptable yet systematic. Structure is important. Systems are essential. But we also know when to bend them enough in the right way to be effective.
We’re gritty and determined yet kind. We’ll do what it takes to make life better culturally and individually for Latin American women and children. But we’ll do so with respect, gentleness and kindness.
We value results but they don’t define us. How do you know what’s effective or not if you don’t keep track of the numbers? However, we never let the numbers become more important than the person who walks through our doors.
So we can make a bigger impact.
Focus is so important. When we know who we are, where we’re going, and how we’re doing it, there are no distractions or divisions. Which means more women transformed from victims to thrivers, more children removed from the cycle of poverty and abuse, and more hope for the future of Bolivia.
We’re excited to be Project Suma. We hope you are too.
